We know the lingo can be a little twisty, so here's the friendly scoop. At Cotton On Kids, when we say jumpers, we mean classic sweatshirts without a hood—think a crewneck layer that's soft, comfy, and simple. When we say hoodies, we mean sweats with a hood, either in pullover or zip-through style.
A jumper is your go-to when you want warmth without the extra head cover. Crewnecks sit neatly under jackets, fit school dress codes more easily in some places, and make a great base for layered looks. They're also brilliant for kids who prefer a clean neckline and fuss-free fit. The vibe is easy and timeless: sporty one minute, snuggly storytime the next.
A hoodie brings a little extra magic: a built-in head hug for crisp mornings and breezy afternoons, plus that cozy “hide-and-seek” feeling little ones love. Many hoodies include a kangaroo pocket—perfect for chilly hands or pocket treasures found on the way to the park. Zip-through hoodies add quick temperature control for kids who run hot then cold then hot again in a single game of tag; pullovers win for cloud-soft comfort and that classic, casual look.
So which should you choose? For all-day, every-day comfort under a coat or for school days where simple is best, reach for a jumper. For weekend adventures, playground sprints, and extra snuggle points, hoodies are the hero. Both are sweats designed for movement, made to wash well, and ready to repeat wear—because life with kids is not a one-and-done situation.
Short answer: yes, when designed for little lives and worn with a few common-sense tips. Our kids' hoodies are created with comfort and safety in mind, using soft, breathable, easy-care fabrics and kid-friendly fits. We keep details simple and practical so they're comfortable to wear on the move—whether climbing, scooting, or curling up with a book.
For younger ages, look for hoodies without functional cords or drawstrings and choose the right size so the hood sits comfortably without slipping over the eyes. Zip-through styles help with easy on-and-off during play; Look for covered zips or smooth finishes that feel gentle against the skin. As with any hooded layer, it's best to keep hoods down during active climbing and avoid wearing hooded garments to sleep. Always check the care label, keep garments away from heat sources, and reassess fit as kids grow—an easy refresh can make a big difference to comfort and safety.
If you're shopping unisex hoodies for siblings or playdate swaps, keeping the fit true to size helps the hood sit neatly and sleeves stay out of snack-time adventures. For boys' hoodies and girls' hoodies alike, breathable fleece helps regulate temperature, while rib cuffs and hemlines keep warmth in on chilly mornings. And because real life comes with drips, drizzles, and juice-box surprises, our sweats are built to handle plenty of washes without losing their soft feel.
Parents, you've got this. Pick the hoodie that suits your kiddo's day—pullover or zip, bold print or soft pastel, unisex neutral or a burst of their favorite color—and let them be the hero of every adventure. We'll bring the comfort, you bring the snacks, and they'll bring the magic.
